Birth Time Rectification is a classical Vedic astrology technique used to find or correct an unknown birth time. Whether you call it a Janma Kundali, Janma Patrika, Jathagam, or Kundli — an accurate birth time is essential for precise predictions. Our birth time rectification calculator automates this ancient process using astronomical computation and your real life events.
Why Birth Time Matters
Ascendant (Lagna) & Divisional Chart Shifts
In Vedic astrology, your birth time determines your Ascendant (Lagna) — the foundation of your entire birth chart. The Lagna changes roughly every 2 hours, and even a few minutes difference can shift your Navamsa (D9) chart, which changes every 13 minutes. Your Rasi, Nakshatra, and planetary positions all depend on the exact moment of birth.
Dasha Period Calculations & Sub-Periods
Your Vimshottari Dasha timeline — the planetary period system that maps the themes of your life — is anchored to the Moon's exact position at birth. A birth time error shifts Dasha start dates by months, causing predictions about career, marriage, health, and other life events to appear misaligned.
How Our Birth Time Rectification Works
Our engine tests hundreds of candidate birth times and scores each against your reported life events — marriage, career changes, education, relocations, health events, and more. For each candidate, it evaluates:
- Vimshottari Dasha periods — which planetary lord was active during each event
- Planetary transits — Saturn, Jupiter, and Rahu positions at event dates
- Navamsa (D9) chart — divisional chart analysis for relationship and dharma events
- Dasamsa (D10) chart — career divisional chart for professional milestones
If you know your Rasi (Moon sign) or Nakshatra (birth star) from family records or temple documents, providing these dramatically narrows the search and improves accuracy. The engine can also detect Sun and Moon sign boundaries to eliminate impossible candidate times.
Frequently Asked Questions
How accurate is automated birth time rectification?+
The accuracy depends on the number and specificity of life events you provide. With 7+ well-dated events across different life areas, our engine typically narrows the birth time to within 5-15 minutes. If you also know your Rasi or Nakshatra, accuracy improves significantly. The confidence score reflects how strongly your events correlate with a specific time.
How many events do I need to provide?+
A minimum of 5 events is required, but 7-10 events produce significantly better results. Choose major, clearly-dated milestones: marriage, first job, job changes, major illness, relocation, child birth, education completion, or financial events.
What if I don't know my birth time at all?+
Select "No Idea" for the confidence level and enter 12:00 as a placeholder time. The algorithm will scan the full 24-hour window. If you know your Rasi (Moon sign) or Nakshatra from family records, enter those — they can eliminate 50-95% of the search space and dramatically improve results.
I know my Rasi but not my birth time. Can this help?+
Absolutely. Your Rasi (Moon sign) tells us which zodiac sign the Moon was in at birth. Since the Moon changes sign roughly every 2.5 days, knowing your Rasi on a specific birth date narrows the birth time window significantly. Combined with life events, this often produces reliable results.
What is the difference between Rasi and Nakshatra?+
Rasi is your Moon sign — one of the 12 zodiac signs (Mesha, Vrishabha, Mithuna, etc.). Nakshatra is your birth star — one of 27 lunar mansions (Ashwini, Bharani, Krittika, etc.). Each Rasi contains 2-3 Nakshatras. Knowing your Nakshatra is more precise than knowing only your Rasi.
Can astrology really find my birth time?+
Birth time rectification has been practiced by Vedic astrologers (Jyotishis) for centuries. The principle is that major life events — marriage, career shifts, health crises — correlate with specific planetary periods (Dashas) and transits. By matching your known events against candidate charts, the most likely birth time can be identified. Our engine automates this classical technique.
Can I use an approximate birth time? Will my chart still be accurate?+
Yes — an approximate time still works well. Your core chart insights — personality traits, planetary placements, strengths, career themes, and relationship patterns — remain highly accurate. What changes with exact timing is the precision of your Ascendant (Lagna) and Dasha periods. You can always start with an approximate time and refine it later.
Will this change my existing chart?+
Only if you choose to accept the rectified time. You will see the results first and can decide whether to update your Janma Kundali. Your original chart is never modified without your explicit consent.
